Giovanni Foresti is a psychoanalyst involved in the administration and the training programmes of SPI (Italian Society of Psychoanalysis) and IPA (International Psychoanalytic Association). He is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and organisational consultant for various public and private institutions.

 

Background

He graduated at Pavia University in Medicine and Surgery, where he then specialised in Psychiatry. He has worked with the Milan-based “Mario Negri” “Istituto di Recerche Farmacologiche” (Institute of Pharmacological Research) and Pavia University’s Psychiatric Clinic, directed by Dario De Martis. In 1993, he obtained a Doctorate in Relational Research and Sciences at the Milan University.
During his formative years, he perfected his preparation by periods abroad, firstly at the Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville (Maryland, USA) and then at Psychiatric Institutions of the Geneva University.
Currently he teaches at the National Training Insititute of SPI, at the Italian Institute of Group Psychoanalysis (IIPG) of Milan, and at the Milano Bicocca University’s Psychiatric Postgraduate School.

 

Doctor

He worked in various institutional realities: in Pavia, at the Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Department of the “San Matteo” General Hospital, as well as at the Pavia University’s Psychiatric Clinic; in Geneva, at the University’s Psychiatric Institutions. He’s been Head Physician and Medical Director of the “Centro Fatebenefratelli – AFaR” (the Fatebenefratelli Association for Research) in San Colombano al Lambro (Milan) from 1993 to 2009.

 

Psychoanalyst and Psychotherapist

He is a self-employed professional since 1988.

He is full member of the Italian Psychoanalytical Society and analyst in the training programmes of the SPI’s National Training Institute. He has been Treasurer for IPSO, Scientific Secretary for the “Cesare Musatti” Milan-based Psychoanalytic Centre, National Scientific Secretary for the SPI and Administrative Secretary for the CMP.

As of 2013, he has been Co-Chairman in Europe for the IPA Commission (International Psychoanalytical Association), coordinated by Claudio Eizirik, which has been given the target of improving relations between psychiatry and psychoanalysis (Psychoanalysis and the Mental Health Field).

 

Organisational Consultant

He developed his skills as organisational consultant through obtaining a number of Masters, such as a Master in Health Economy and Service Organisation at the Milan’s Polytechnic, a Master in Health Management at the University of Pavia and a Master in Health Management at the IREF (Lombardy’s Regional Institute for Training in Health Management).

His personal training went ahead with a group relations conference organised in Italy by the “Il Nodo Group” and the Tavistock Consulting Service in London. In 2014 he was also part of the training team for the 50th edition of the A.K. Rice Institute’s training programmes in Boston.

He is a member of OPUS, London and is part of the scientific committee of Turin’s “Il Nodo Group”.

As of 1998, he took part as a consultant for specialised hospital services in haematology, cardiology and infectious diseases, including consultancy for public psychiatric services, as well as public and private therapeutic community services in Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia, the Marches and Veneto regions.

He is a member of the Scientific Committee for the “IL NODO GROUP” and has taken part in setting up projects for research and action within institutional realities involving State productivity and management.

At present he is candidate for Europe at the IPA’s Board.
